Dear David,
Nothing major afoot -- just crossing the continent a couple times. June has turned into travel month. Judy Kroll needed another policy debate judge and a spare driver for Nationals, so she called me a few days before the tournament and invited me to come with them to Portland. We took off on the 8th and just got back at dawn this morning. The Pacific Ocean, the Columbia River gorge, the Rockies, Yellowstone, the Bighorns -- it was great! Now I have just a couple days to rest up and soak in the lake air before hopping in the Jeep to head to the other ocean, the great Atlantic, to visit my friend Megan in Nova Scotia!
Obviously, these four weeks of traveling have kept will likely continue to keep my mind off philosophy, although I have been reading a fascinating book by Leonard Shlain (a surgeon, of all things!) arguing some fundamental connection between the development of literacy and patriarchy. He makes some really interesting observations about the development of the Hebrew culture and the Old Testament. I highly recommend the book!
