Evan Almighty (2007)

From Summa Bergania

I saw this movie on a Saturday night, and honestly laughed more the next morning listening to a sermon at our church, than throughout the whole movie. There's nothing funny here unless you bust a gut seeing Steve Carell with a beard, or watching animals follow him around. Personally, I like to see jokes in a comedy (and they are way cheaper than animal training).

I have to wonder at what point during the making of this movie did the crew stop trying to make a good movie and start thinking about this as just another job. It's like in poker where you make a couple a bets earlier on, you feel like you have to keep betting to stay in for a chance at the pot, rather than just folding. Somewhere the producers had to know that the movie stunk, but couldn't stop it from becoming the most expensive comedy produced.

As far as I know, Evan Almighty gets my award for worst follow-up sequel ever. Nowhere else have I rated one movie 5 stars, and then its immediate sequel 1 star.
