There Will Be Blood (2007)

It held my attention just fine... the actors, directors, and producers did a great job perfecting the details. But when I left the theater, I just kind of went, "huh?". Not sure the point of it all... I guess it's like a Citizen Kane that's not nearly as precise, as poetic, or as artistic. It's more like watching Scrooge sort of get away with it.

And I have to add that the use of an atonal soundtrack became very annoying. At the beginning, I thought it was quaint to use it to emphasize the craziness of Plainview's state of mind... but not much later I found out that it was the only kind of music in the movie (until the closing credits). Personally, I think dead silence (ala No Country for Old Men) has a much creepier effect.
