Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind (2004)

Fortunately, the bland characters, plot, and dialog are so forgettable that I have no need for a memory-erasing procedure myself. Elective memory erasing is a very interesting concept... too bad they didn't extrapolate the concept into broader social situations—ie a group of 10 friends where 5 had a procedure that erased a certain party they were at, or a C.E.O. on trial for corruption when he had all memories of his actions erased and shouts with outrage during the trial that he's innocent (can he actually be guilty if he has no recollection of the crime?)—something that explores the idea that a person's soul is in large part their memory.
